Why a world trip?
A little story written by Xenia
The plan already began in February 2015 during our camping trip somewhere in the middle of the Serengeti, while watching the sunset.
Our first visit to the “real” Africa started my Africa fever and I confessed to Martin that I would love to travel Africa by Motorbike. He looked at me like I was having a sunstroke but didn’t say anything. After the camping Safari we headed to Mafia Island to chill out and scuba dive. This gave me a little time to think about my new plan. After all it was already 2.5 years since my last bigt trip and because I “need” every four or so years a new adventure, it would be time to start with a new plan. But why again “only” for a year? Maybe it was time to think about something bigger.
I had a look on the world map on my mobile phone while I was sipping my cocktail and was wondering which other countries would be great to visit. The “Stans” are on my bucket list for a while already and I’ve never been to New Zealand. Apart from that I would love to show the outback of Australia to Martin because I’m convinced that he would love it as much as I did. I couldn’t keep my ideas to myself and told Martin about it and asked what he would think about a “world trip” by motorbike. He was a bit reserved at first, which is understandable but I was happy that he didn’t told me that I’m nuts.
Only a few weeks after our Tanzania trip, Martin was on it as well and we started to make some more plans. Because Martin was working on a further education which was taking time until end of May 2016, it was clear that we would start the trip after he got his diploma (which he did yaiii). As I am working as a travel agent and talk about the “best” travel seasons nearly every day, it became clear that we don’t want to travel during Monsun or with temperatuers over 40 degrees if possible. Therefore we decided to start our trip in February 2017 from our home in Switzerland.
This is the planned route
