We are now really on the road and it is still kind of hard to grasp that we are now on „our“ big trip. After a long time of dreaming, planning and organising this trip, we are actually doing this! Not everyting was so easy before we could finally start this adventure.
Serious health issues before the trip
Only a few month back Xenia couldn’t walk for a few weeks and was diagnosed with a disc prolapse. Not really something you wanna hear after you already had a shoulder operation in the same year and want to be fit and healthy for your upcoming motorbike trip. Nevertheless she started her physiotherapie right away and trained really hard for the next two month to get the okay from the Doc to be able to start the trip.
A leaking pump
The plan was to start by mid February which worked out but only with a good amout of luck. Two days before we wanted to head off, we decided to refuel the motorbikes. This decision saved our asses.
After a short ride to the petrol pump and back, we saw that there was a big, yellow puddle under Xenia’s motorbike. We quickly found the wrongdoer: the hose to the water pump was leaking. It was just revised a few weeks ago and was perfectly fine on the ride back home from the meachanic. Because it was minus 10 degrees then, the cooler didn’t start and therefore nobody saw the mistake (a defect clamp).
We called the road assitance (if you already pay your insurance why not use it) and off the motorbike went. The next day the XT660R was already fixed by our nice mechanic and back with the Ténéré, so that we could load both motorbikes with our luggage. We said good bye to Xenia’s parents and then it was already time to sleep one last time in our own bed before we headed out on our big adventure!
